A clear plan for cleaning your roof glazing

Some roof windows can be cleaned with our Reach & Wash equipment. Others need closer access. We check the position of the glazing and agree what is included before arranging the work.

  • External glass cleaning

We clean surface dirt and deposits from the outside of the agreed roof glazing. Let us know about any areas that are particularly marked or have not been cleaned for some time.

  • Access around the property

The roof layout, nearby buildings and space below all matter. We choose the access method around the position of the glass.

  • Frames and surrounding edges

If the external frames and edges also need attention, include them in your enquiry so we can confirm what the clean will cover.

  • Clear expectations

Some staining or marks within the glazing may remain after cleaning. If a problem needs further assessment, we will explain it rather than promise a result we cannot confirm.

Common questions

Questions about skylight and rooflight cleaning

Send photos from a safe position, along with the postcode and approximate number of rooflights.

Request a rooflight cleaning quote
Can you clean rooflights that are difficult to reach?

Send photos showing the rooflights, the surrounding roof and access around the building. Some can be reached with suitable poles; others may need an access platform. The rooflight's position matters as much as its height. We assess the access before confirming which areas can be cleaned.

Do you need to walk on the roof or rooflights?

Access must be assessed first. Rooflights should be treated as fragile and must never be used as a walking or standing surface. A cleaning method may allow work from the ground or a suitable platform. Do not climb onto the roof to take photographs for an enquiry; pictures from a safe position are enough to start.

Does glass described as self cleaning still need attention?

It can do. The coating uses daylight and rain to help break down and wash away some dirt, but that does not deal with every deposit or every location. Sheltered glazing may receive little rain. Tell us if the glass has a coating so the cleaning method can follow its care instructions.

Can plastic or polycarbonate rooflights be cleaned like glass?

They need their own care instructions. Polycarbonate can be damaged by unsuitable products or abrasive cleaning, so it should not automatically receive the same treatment as ordinary glass. Tell us the material or manufacturer if you know it. If you are unsure, send photographs so suitability can be assessed before quoting.

Will cleaning make cloudy rooflights clear again?

Only if removable dirt is causing the cloudiness. Moisture between the panes of a sealed glass unit cannot be cleaned from the outside, and surface damage is not the same as dirt. Photos can help us judge what needs a closer look, but cleaning cannot be promised to restore damaged glazing.

Can you clean the inside as well as the outside?

Internal cleaning can be considered, but it needs separate access planning. Tell us what is below the rooflights, including desks, stock, machinery or a stairwell, and whether the area can be cleared. An exterior cleaning quote should not be assumed to include the internal surfaces.

What if the job needs a cherry picker?

We can assess that as part of the enquiry. The machine must be suitable for the reach required and the access available around the building. If a platform is proposed, the arrangements and costs need to be included clearly in the quote before a date is agreed.

Do I need measurements before asking for a price?

No. Start with the postcode, approximate number of rooflights and photographs. Rough dimensions help if you have them, but please do not take risks trying to measure a roof. Size, condition, material and access all affect the price. We will explain if a site visit or further information is needed.

Can rooflight cleaning be combined with the building's windows?

Yes, we can assess them together and confirm whether the work suits a combined visit. List the rooflights and windows you want included, plus any internal surfaces. We also consider roof glazing at homes, so you can enquire whether you manage a commercial building or need help at a residential property.
